Region

Trentino/Südtirol

South Tirol/Trentino is one of Italy’s smallest winegrowing regions. Very diverse altitudes, soil characteristics and climatic conditions render it a region with many facets: Numerous vine varieties enjoy very good conditions here. The vines thrive mainly in the valleys of Etsch (Adige) und Eisack (Isarco). To the North, the Alps protect against cold winds, in the South the currents from Lake Garda and the Mediterranean exert their influence across the open landscape. The best sites are at altitudes between 600 and 800 m a.s.l., delivering promising and diverse wines, great differences in day-time and night-time temperatures, and abundant precipitation during the growth phase – the perfect combination for a high grapevine quality. More than 55 percent of the winegrowing area is used to cultivate white Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Weissburgunder and Chardonnay, as well as Kerner and Veltliner.
