Character

This light white wine has a delightfully lively bouquet of apple and quince notes typical of the grape variety, with a touch of peach and elements of white blossom. On the palate it has a fine initial sweetness, a clean freshness and intense aromas; its full fruit are wonderfully supported by its harmonious and full-bodied structure.

Region

Piemont

The North-Western Italian Piedmont (“at the feet of the mountains”) is located in the Southern foothills of the Alps. The climatic conditions are challenging: Except for the area around Pianura padana, the region here is significantly cooler than the rest of Italy. Short, dry summers give way to foggy autumns and very cold winters. This is a challenge that Piedmont’s winegrowers have mastered successfully: Alongside Tuscany, Piedmont produces most of Italy’s premium wines, with unmistakeably full-bodied and many-faceted aromas resulting from these particular climatic conditions. The most common vine type is the red Barbera vine, followed by the Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, from which the world-renowned Barolo is pressed. The vines thrive at altitudes of 150 to 400 m a.s.l. on various soils – from clayish for a multi-layer bouquet to calcareous sandy soils that facilitate a strong structure in the wine.

Producer/Brand

Malvirà

Azienda Agricola Malvirà is located a few kilometres from Alba, in the heart of the Roero region, near the village of Canale – a family business as one might find in an Italian picture book. The Damonte brothers cultivate quality wines on the farm founded by their father. The two brothers share a passion for wine and complement each other wonderfully: Massimo manages the vineyards and Roberto looks after the cellar. The whole family works together to produce the wines, which owe their characteristic mineral freshness to the typical sandy, chalky soil.
